Description
Bronchitis Signs and Symptoms
The initial sign of bronchitis is usually a persistent dry cough that is associated with an upper respiratory infection. Second, sputum is coughed up from the lungs. First
it may be white and clear. As the bronchial infection progresses, the sputum thickens and is no long white. On the contrary, it will be either yellow, green, or brown. If
there is a thick, pus-filled discharge, this suggests a bacterial infection.
People who are victims to bronchitis usually have the following symptoms:
- Malaise and Irritability
- Exhaustion
- Nasal itching and discomfort
- Burning pain, wheezing, and crackling in the chest
- Painful and difficulty breathing
- A low-grade fever between 101ºF–102ºF
If acute bronchitis is not treated, it can sometimes progress to chronic bronchitis or pneumonia, especially in people with suppressed immune systems or those with lung
disease. Chronic bronchitis is associated with long-term constriction of airways, bacterial reinfection, and other diseases which can include asthma, emphysema, and
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
